Indoor Pickleball Saves Major Tournament from Rain-Out — 300+ Players Now Gathering at Play Pickleball Club in J-Town
Louisville, KY — June 5, 2025 — With storms threatening to cancel one of Louisville’s largest pickleball tournaments, Play Pickleball Club (PPC) in Jeffersontown stepped in to rescue the event — and keep more than 300 players in the game.
The Baird Bourbon Cup 2025, originally scheduled for June 6–8 at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park on 16 outdoor courts, faced cancellation due to forecasted rain. With just days to go, tournament organizers reached out to PPC for a solution. In a remarkable show of support, PPC offered all 11 indoor courts at its state-of-the-art facility exclusively for three full days.
“Once we heard they were at risk of a rain-out, we immediately offered our facility for the full weekend,” said Yash Ghiya, co-owner of Play Pickleball Club. “They confirmed two days right away, and if rain continues into Sunday, we’re ready to host day three as well.”
The Baird Bourbon Cup, sponsored by Baird Private Wealth Management, is one of the region’s most anticipated tournaments and supports the Tom Sawyer State Park Foundation. It features round-robin play followed by brackets and draws hundreds of competitive players from across Kentucky and neighboring states.
By moving the tournament indoors, PPC ensured that players, sponsors, and spectators could enjoy the full tournament experience without disruption — rain or shine.
“Working with the owners of Play Pickleball Club has been an exceptional experience,” said Kellie Marie, Tournament Director for the Baird Bourbon Cup. “The club itself allowed for us to run a successful tournament and hopefully provide partnership in times of need in the future.”
“This weekend is a great example of what the Louisville pickleball community is all about — collaboration, energy, and stepping up when it matters,” said Ghiya. “We’re proud to support events like this and to provide a reliable, high-quality venue that’s raising the bar for indoor pickleball.”
The excitement also builds toward PPC’s own signature tournament, The Bourbon Cup at PPC, which will attract players from across the region in the coming weeks.
